Braves fourth in state fastpitch

The Bethel Braves finished in fourth place Saturday in the 4A state faspitch championships in Spokane. They reached the semifinals of the two-day tournament at Merkel Sports Complex before losing to Walla Walla 7-4. After beating Redmond 4-3 in extra innings in a consolation game, Bethel bowed to Richland 11-1 in a contest to decide third and fourth places. Bethel secured its first appearance in the state tournament in 28 years by finishing second in the West Central District playoffs. Puyallup, a fellow member of the South Puget Sound League, topped the Braves 3-2 in the district championship game May 25, and went on to win the state championship. The Vikings beat Walla Walla 4-2 in the title game.
