By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch When students show up for the first day of classes next September at nine schools in the Bethel School District, they'll find new principals at each one. The 2014-15 school year is bringing the leadership changes as th result of resignations, retirements, the implementation of a bilingual (Spanish) immersion program, and other administrative needs, according to district officials. Graham-Kapowsin High School is among the schools getting a new leader. Lynn Gill, who became principal in 2012, is being replaced by Matt Yarkosky, an assistant principal at the school the past two years. Gill, in a posting on Graham-Kapowsin's web site, said she is "moving out of state at the end of this school year to pursue other opportunities." She said she's "excited about the work we have done to improve academic success for all students," but also "sad to leave such a great school." The school will be "in good hands" with Yarkosky as principal, Gill said. "He is ready to continue the work we have begun and is very invested in G-K's success." The other principal changes all involve elementary schools. They include: "Kapowsin: Mary Sewright. " North Star: Stephen Rushing. " Pioneer Valley: Christoph Green. " Roy: Chad Honig. " Shining Mountain: Paul Marquardt. " Thompson: Ralph Wisner. " Camas Prairie, Cassie Stephani. Marquardt, Stephani and Wisner are new to the Bethel district. Marquardt and Stephani are moving over from the Federal Way School District, while Wisner has been working in Salem-Keizer School District in Salem, Ore. Thompson Elementary will host the bilingual Spanish immersion program beginning with the 2015-16 school year.
