Madison Rodewald, an Eatonville High School student, hopes to ring in 2013 in England. Rodewald is one of more than 500 high school cheerleaders from across the U.S. who have been invited to perform together in the London New Year's Day Parade. To get there, she needs to raise about $3,500 to pay for her trip. "This is the most exciting opportunity I've ever had, and I hope it will shape me as a cheerleader (and) school and community leader," she wrote in a letter to businesses and community members, asking for tax-deductible donations. Checks made out to EHS Cheer Booster Club can be mailed to her at P.O. Box 375, Eatonville, WA 98328. Rodewald, who was selected for the All-American cheerleader squad after try-outs in July at a summer cheerleading camp, is a second-year member of Eatonville's cheer team. She's also involved with student government and the leadership class in school, and is a volunteer with Special Olympics and a veterinarian clinic. She plans to study veterinary medicine at Washington State University. The London cheerleader trip is being organized through Varsity, a supplier of cheerleader uniforms, clinics and competitions. "This is the 26th year we've been able to bring talented cheerleaders to London" for a showcase of their skills "to an international audience," said Mike Fultz, event coordinator for Varsity.
