DaJon Barnes was happy. He'd just bought a stuffed toy for 25 cents during a visit with his mother, Maria, to the Junk in Your Trunk sale July 13 at Sprinker Recreation Center. Elsewhere, browsers were sorting through racks of clothing, boxes of trading cards and music recordings, and and a potpourri of other items waiting for a buyer.-á That's the kind of treasure hunting and finding that goes on at the events that are hosted several times a year by Pierce County Parks and Recreation. The last one this year is scheduled for this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Junk in Your Trunk is a twist on garage sales and yard sales. Instead of selling their stuff at home, people load it into their vehicles and drive to Sprinker, where they do their selling in rented space in the parking lot of the sports and recreation complex in Spanaway. Vendors pay a registration fee of $20 per car, truck or van, and $30 per recreation vehicle or camper. For that, they're assigned two stalls in the parking lot GÇô one to park their vehicle, and another one to set up and display their sale items. Spots for sellers this Saturday are limited to the number of parking spaces that will be made available. Participants can register and get information at 253-798-4141 and www.piercecountywa.org/parks There's no cost for shoppers to go and browse. Admission is free, and so is the parking for them. Parks and Recreation Department organizers of Junk in Your Trunk say the event amounts to hunting at scores of garage sales in one day without having to drive in search of them. It's also an opportunity for people tos sell unwanted GÇô but potentially lucrative GÇô items that they clear out of their closests, basements and storage units.
