Comeback Cruisers reach 1A semis

And then there were four. And Eatonville is one of them. Twenty-one unanswered points in the fourth quarter and a daring two-point conversion in overtime took the Cruisers from the brink of elimination in the state 1A high school football tournament to within two games of a championship as they nipped Mount Baker 29-28 Saturday in Bellingham. Eatonville will face Cascade Christian this Saturday in the Tacoma Dome in the semifinals. The winner of the clash of unbeaten teams (both have 11-0 records) will play the following week for the state title against the survivor of the other semifinal game between Cascade (8-3) and Colville (12-0). Trailing 21-0 after three quarters, Eatonville rallied for three touchdowns in regulation, then came from behind again in overtime. Down 28-21, Ryan Franz ran for a touchdown and Jake McCormick did the same for the two-point coonversion to complete the dramatic comeback. (Read more in the Nov. 26 print edition of The Dispatch)
