Congress moves to name post office for ranger

Legislation that calls for renaming the Eatonville Post Office in memory of a slain Mount Rainier National Park ranger was passed Wednesday by the U.S. House of Representatives. House Resolution 5788 officially designates the facility as National Park Ranger Margaret Anderson Post Office, said Rep. Dave Reichert, who introduced the legislation. Anderson was shot and killed Jan. 1 by a gunman who drove past a mandatory tire chains checkpoint in the park and then opened fire on Anderson when she tried to stop him with a roadblock on the road that leads to the Paradise recreation area. Anderson lived in Eatonville with her husband and two children. Her family has moved out of state. "It seems only appropriate that there be a lasting memorial in the town where she served so bravely," Reichert said. "This post office will publicly honor her heroism and sacrifice. It will also stand as a reminder of all those who put their lives on the line every day for their fellow citizens.GÇ¥
