County Council coming to Ashford

Ashford will be the scene of one of the Pierce County Council regular weekly meetings Oct. 14. Councilman Jim McCune said that as part of an effort by council to reach out to outlying areas of the county, the meeting in Ashford will begin at 6 p.m. at Mount Rainier Lions Club, located at 27726 State Route 706 E. "It will be a chance to experience local government firsthand,GÇ¥ said McCune, whose council district includes the south Pierce County area. Speakers and topics will include presentation by local historian Don Johnstone on Ashford and the Mount Rainier area, Eatonville School District superintendent Krestin Bahr on the financial challenges and welfare of the district, Fire District 23 chief Garry Olson on the operations of the rural fire protection services, and business owner Rick Adams on the impact of regulatory and land-use policies.
