In the start of Washington's role in choosing the candidates for president in this year's election, the Pierce County organization of the Republican Party will join its counterparts in the state's 38 other counties in precinct caucuses this Saturday. Participants in the Republican-only meetings will elect delegates for the party's state and national conventions to represent the voting results of the May 24 presidential primary election in Washington. Caucuses will be held at 11 locations, including Graham-Kapowsin High School. Voters will attend the location where their voting precinct is included. They can learn their location through the Washington secretary of state at https://www.sos.wa.gov/elelections/myvote/ and at 253-722-5353. Information also is available at the Pierce County Republican web site (www.PierceGOP.org). The doors at each location are scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m. The caucus process will begin at 10. Participation is open to any registered voter who signs a form stating that they consider themselves a Republican and won't participate in a caucus or convention of any other political party this year. Democrats will hold their party's state caucuses on March 26. The statewide presidential preference primary election is set for May 24. The primary's results can be used by the political parties to help determine the candidates Washington delegates will support at national nominating conventions this summer.
