The 2011 high school girls swimming season was a success on many levels for Eatonville's Cruisers.-áThey finished fourth in the South Puget Sound League 2A and sent two individual competitors and a relay team to the state meet, where an eighth-place finish in diving by Tasha McKibben was the highlight.
A year later, with much of the core of the 2011 team having graduated from high school, the Cruisers are rebuilding, according to coach Ronda Smith.
"Losing 10 seniors-á makes this a building year,GÇ¥ Smith said. "We only have three seniors. However, two of them were members of the (school record-setting and state-qualifying) relay team, so we will be working to get their teammates up to speed.GÇ¥
Seniors Marisa Bass and Hailey Latherow, who are in their fourth years with the Cruisers, and junior Alana Hall were state meet competitors last season in relays.
Eatonville's 200 freestyle relay team finished 16th in the state meet in 1:51.33, the fastest time in the school's history. Smith is in her 11th year as head coach and 13th year overal (two as an assistant).
