As he has all season, Shannon Edwards came up big Saturday for Graham-Kapowsin, and as a result, the Eagles are in the quarterfinals of the 4A state high school football tournament. Edwards ran 37 yards in the fourth quarter for the game's final touchdown, breaking a deadlock with Gig Harbor and giving his team a 27-21 victory in a first-round matchup. G-K's opponent this week is Wenatchee, a 41-27 first-round winner over Skyview last Friday. Edwards, who had scored 28 touchdowns in 10 previous games this season, was kept out of the end zone by Gig Harbor long enough for the Tides, who were playing on their home field, to battle Graham-Kapowsin to a 21-21 standstill. They had to rally from a 21-7 deficit, getting the tieing points in the final quarter on Adrian Malona's 14-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion. That set the stage for Edwards' fourth-quarter heroics for G-K, whose record is now 10-1. Gig Harbor ended its season with a 9-2 mark. (Read more in the Nov. 16 print edition of The Dispatch)
