Fun in the sun at Eatonville Art Festival

By PAT JENKINS The Dispatch Maureen Hogan has been to her share of art festivals, and from what she saw last weekend, the Eatonville Art Festival is right up there with the best of them. Hogan was among the 53 artisans who were among the attractions at Glacier View Park in Eatonville, starting Friday morning and continuing until the 44th annual festival ended in the early evening Sunday. The exhibitors, entertainers, food vendors and visitors shared the warm, sunny weather for the event that is a major fund-raiser for its organizer, the Eatonville Lions Club. Club officials said 85 percent of its annual community services, including a kids' fishing derby, a dinner for seniors and support of Boy Scouts and the local food bank, is supported by festival revenue. Hogan, who makes clay creations for her Shock Art Studios in Olympia, was happy to be part of the festival for the first time. She said it's smaller but otherwise compares favorably to art events she frequented in Tennessee before moving to Washington. Occupying a booth next to Hogan's was Terry Carson and his metal creations from TLC Forge The Eatonville-area artist has been at most of the festivals since 1980 "It's always a great place to be and be seen," he said. Bands, singers and auctions also kept this year's festival hopping.
