Mount Rainier National Park will admit all visitors for free this Saturday in celebration of National Get Outdoors Day.
The U.S. Park Service observance is scheduled for all 397 national parks. At Mount Rainier, the idea is to "get out and enjoy snow-free areas such as
the Trail of the Shadows at Longmire or the Carbon River and Ohanapecosh
areas,GÇ¥ said park superintendent Randy King.
Park roads expected to be open include the Nisqually entrance to Paradise, Westside Road, Stevens Canyon, State Routes 123 and 410, and White River Road to the White River campground.
Road crews are in the process of removing the winter snowpack from the Sunrise Road in time for the scheduled late-June opening of Sunrise Visitor Center and Sunrise Lodge.
Four more free-admission days are scheduled this year GÇô Sept. 29 (National Public Lands Day) and Nov. 10-12 (Veterans Day weekend).
