Graham-Kapowsin comes up short

Chiawana, the defending 4A state high school football champion and arguably the favorite to keep the crown for another year, proved it doesn't have to score 40-plus points to win. Unfortunately for Graham-Kapowsin's Eagles, that revelation came at their expense. Chiawana topped G-K 28-12 last Saturday in Pasco in the semifinals of the state tournament. That helped set the stage for the championship game this Saturday between the Riverhawks and Bothell at the Tacoma Dome. Bothell beat Newport in the other semifinal. Graham-Kapowsin, hoping to be one of those teams in the title game, slowed down Chiawana's high-scoring offense, but not enough. The Riverhawks won their first two tournament games this month by a combined score of 85-10 over Gonzaga Prep and Davis.
