High school teams ready for spring

Spring has arrived. Well, at least the high school spring sports season is here. Teams could officially start practicing Feb. 29 in preparation for competition that will start in March and culminate in May with league, district and state tournaments. For south Pierce County schools, here's what's coming up to start their seasons: " In baseball, non-league contests March 11 will include Eatonville at Washington, Graham-Kapowsin hosting Kentrlake and Bethel at home against Stadium. " Boys soccer season-openers inlcude Eatonville at Vashon Island March 15 in a non-league match, Graham-Kapowsin in a jamboree hosted by Auburn March 12, and Bethel playing host to Jefferson on March 12. " Track and field competition will get underway March 19 for Eatonviille in the Rainier Ice Breaker Invitational at Rainier High. Graham-Kapowsin will host Emerald Ridge March 24 in a South Puget Sound League 4A South Division meet. Another SPSL meet March 31 will have Bethel hosting Curtis. " In fastpitch softball, a pair of non-leaguers are planned for March 11 GÇô Eatonville at Washington and Graham-Kapowsin at Camas. " Girls tennis openers include Eatonville at Centralia March 14, Graham-Kapowsin at Beamer March 17 and Bethel at Federal Way March 15.All three matches are non-league.
