Visitors to Mount Rainier National Park over the Fourth of July weekend will have one less day of potential traffic delays. Park officials said construction on the Nisqually to Paradise Road will be stopped July 3-5. While visitors can normally expect to experience delays on weekdays during daylight hours, there will be no work this Friday (July 3). Even without roadwork to deal with, motorists will find that the roads in the park are narrow, winding, and sometimes rough and uneven. Cautious driving is recommended by park officials. Construction along the road from Nisqually entrance to Paradise area began in May and is expected to continue through the end of July, then start again in early October. Delays of up to 15 minutes at each stop and no more than 30 minutes total through the project can be expected when work is underway, officials said. The project is addressing deteriorating road conditions caused by rain and snowprecipitation, structural and design deficiencies, heavy traffic and normal wear and tear.
