The leading candidates to become Eatonville School District's next superintendent are scheduled to be interviewed this Saturday by the School Board. The interviews, which will be closed to the public, will be held at the Sunrise Medical building in the South Hill area. Afterward, the board plans to announce three finalists, who will be invited to spend a day in the district April 22, 23 and 25. One candidate per day will meet the public and spend time with board members. The board expects to hire one of the finalists by May 1 to replace Rich Stewart, who announced in January that he will retire in June at the end of the current school year. Stewart has been superintendent since 2010. Twenty people applied for the position. After a review of their backgrounds and qualifications, seven were picked for the interviews this weekend, according to board member Paulette Gilliardi. They're good candidates, board member Roger Andrascik said at a board meeting March 27. The board has said it will reveal the names of only the three finalists. The rest will be kept private to provide anonymity for those who don't reach the finalist stage. Sixteen of the original applicants are from Washington, three are from other states, and one is an American living and working in Norway.
