July 3-4 celebration needs money and volunteers

The committee organizing Eatonville's annual Independence Day celebration, which will be held July 3-4, is in need of volunteers to assist on either day. And more money, says Audrey Thompson. Thompson, one of the event's lead organizers, said last week the budget was still about $2,000 short of covering the approximately $9,000 in expenses for the professsional fireworks show and other costs. Donations (make checks payable to Eatonville Community Celebration) can be made by mail at P.O. Box 1086, Eatonville, WA 98328, or in-person at Thompson's Licensing Agency and All About You Salon. Both businesses are in Eatonville. Part of the fund-raising is a raffle of a 2000 Volvo passenger car. The vehicle is parked in the Bruno's restaurant parking lot, with a sign on it trumpeting "Win MeGÇ¥ in the hope of enticing raffle ticket sales to passersby at the town's intersection of Washington Avenue and Center Street. The owners of Bruno's donated the car, and Eatonville Collision and Eatonville Auto donated work on it to make it an even better deal than the $1 apiece raffle tickets being sold at Bruno's, Eatonville Auto, Thompson's Licensing Agency and All About Me Salon. Meanwhile, anyone who wants to be in the parade July 4 must submit an application. And financial donations to help meet expenses of the celebration are still needed. More information is available from Thompson at 360-832-8366 or Karen Woodcock at 360-832-1722.
