By PAT JENKINS The Dispatch Breaking records and inhabiting the upper strata of Washington's high school track and field stars are becoming habits for Justin Kaelin. For the second time in two weeks, Kaelin set a school record for Eatonville High and moved ahead of all or most competitors statewide. This time, the accomplishment was in the discus with a throw of 165 feet 4 inches in an Evergreen League meet last Thursday. It was the best this season among 1A schools and the state's fifth-best mark among all high schools. The week before, Kaelin took the overall lead in the state this season in the shot put with a school-record of 59 feet 5.5 inches. He's the defending 1A state champion in the shot put. Kaelin's domination of the weight events helped Eatonvllle win the four-school meet it hosted last week. Also keying the victory over Montesano, Hoquiam and Tenino was Logan Moose, who captured the high jump (6 feet) and the long jump (20 feet 11 inches) and ran a leg on the victorious 4x100 relay team that included Josiah Holtz, Zarak Scruggs and George Tomal. Holtz, Scruggs and Tomal also were individual winners GÇô Holtz in the 400 in 53.66 seconds, Scruggs in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet 11 inches, and Tomal in the javelin at 155 feet 7 inches. Eatonville won the girls' meet, too, thanks in part to hurdler Mia Snyder. She took the 100 and 300 hurdles in 17.52 seconds and 52.61 seconds, respectively. The Cruisers got other winning performances from Sarah Litzenberger in the 800 (2:37.2), Daisey Newman in the javelin (119 feet 6 inches), Madeline Madison in the pole vault (7 feet 6 inches), and the relay units GÇô Gwendolyn Hayes, Hannah Reulbach, Madison Tobin and Maddison McCarther in the 4x200 (2:00.42) and Tobin, Tayler Cearley, Emily Padgett and Hayes in the 4x400 (4:41.33).
