Kid-tested, kid-approved

Kids Trek, a new nature-themed attraction for children at Northwest Trek, opened to fanfare and big crowds on April 2. Trek officials reported 3,122 visitors, breaking a single-day attendance record of 3.055 that had stood since August 1975. Another 2,424 people attended the Eatonville-area wildlife park the next day, making the grand-opening weekend "a smashing success," a spokeswoman said. After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, kids rushed into the one-acre playground that includes structures and features for sliding, bouncing, climbing, splashing and building. Seventy-five percent of the $1.9 million project was paid for with donations and grants. The rest of the funding came from a Tacoma Metro Parks bond measure.
