Knitters making a difference

By Tillie Vuksich Contributing writer The Eatonville knitting group, the Knit "n' Knots, supports local hospitals by donating hand-knitted and crocheted hats (from baby-sized to adult), lap blankets and hand-sewn wheelchair bags to MultiCare Health System, which then disperses it to all of its Pierce County locations. Founding member Carol Block says the group has been meeting for the past 10 years and has donated over 8oo hats in that time. The Knit "n' Knots is a group of 17 women, ages 40 to 95, who meet once a week to knit, crochet and plan their donation trip to Puyallup, which they do every couple of months. They go together as a group to donate their goods, stop at Granny's Attic GÇô a MultiCare-operated thrift store in Puyallup - to look for yarn, and have a lunch out. It's a great ritual that brings a lot of good to the community by helping medical patients, gives them joy to help using their craft, and they always have the best time together, Block said. The group is always accepting donations of handmade items, yarn, notions and patterns. Donations can be dropped off at Eatonville Community Center on Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
