Pierce County's 17 outdoor lahar warning sirens in the Puyallup River Valley will be tested March 2 in the latest of monthly drills that are conducted on the first Monday of each month. As part of the test, an alert will be sent at 9 a.m. to citizens who have signed up to receive the informational messages. The tests are conducted by the county's Department of Emergency Management. In an actual lahar emergency, the sirens would warn the public of danger from debris flows stemming from volcanic activity at Mount Rainier.
