The 2012-13 Nisqually League high school basketball season opened last week on winning notes for Eatonville High School's girls and boys basketball teams. The girls topped Seattle Christian 46-28 and the boys beat Seattle Christian 60-42 on Dec. 4. The games followed similar patterns: Both were close at halftime (Eatonville's girls led 27-20 and the Cruisers' boys were up 21-20), then turned into runaways in the second half. In the girls' contest, Eatonville held Seattle Christian scoreless in the third quarter. "I was really pleased how the girls responded and made adjustments on the floor, both offensively and defensively,GÇ¥ said Eatonville coach Davina Serdahl. The Cruisers were led in scoring by Kayley Bass with 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting. Hailey Latherow added nine points, and Kaelyn Voss and Marissa Bass contributed seven and six, respectively. In the boys' contest, Eatonville outscored its hosts 16-7 in the third period and 22-14 in the final one. Josh Bennett tallied 17 points and Brendan Davis finished with 16 points to pace the Cruisers. Cascade Christian topped the Cruiser boys 52-49 in another Nisqually contest last Friday.. Davis scored 17 points. Cascade won the girls' battle, too, beating Eatonville 56-48. The Cougars, trailing 19-6 after the first quarter, roared ahead by outscoring Eatonville 20-2 in the second period. Voss scored 20 points and Kayley Bass netted 18.
