Legion salutes Veterans Day with dinner

The community can observe Veterans Day Nov. 11 with a group in Eatonville that originally served as a memorial to the only soldier from the town who died in World War I. American Legion Post 148 will host a spaghetti-ádinner from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Legion hall at 123 Rainier Ave. The public is encouraged to attend. The post was chartered in 1923 and filled with World War I members. It was originally named in honor of Army Pvt. Jesse L. Jensen, who served with the 361st Infantry, 91st Division. He was Eatonville's sole casualty of WWI, said Ray Arment, one of the post's leaders today. Jensen was killed in action on Sept. 30, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne campaign in the vicinity of Bois de Cierges, France.
