A Pierce County man has been ordered to spend 21 years in prison for the murder of his roommate. Michael Clifford Boisselle, 36, a South Hill resident, was sentenced June 15 following a Pierce County Superior Court jury's conviction of him on charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. Authorities accused Boisselle of shooting Brandon Zomalt, 30, at least five times two years ago. Witnesses in Boisselle's trial testified that he admitted to the murder. Prosecuting Attorney Mark Lindquist said Boisselle tried to destroy evidence and avoid arrest. In August 2014, Auburn Police officers discovered two fires near a road and, based on eyewitnesses' accounts, learned that a vehicle leaving the scene of the fires was registered to Boisselle's mother. At the site of the fires, investigators found a spent bullet case, a full bullet, a section of carpet with a large amount of blood on it, and a section of kitchen flooring. The blood's DNA matched Zomalt's. After relatives said Zomalt was missing, Pierce County Sheriff deputies found his decomposed body at the home he shared with Boisselle. Witnesses in the trial said they noted a bad smell at Boisselle's residence, but didn't think much of it because his residence usually smelled bad. Authorities reported that Boisselle told people he shot Zomalt because he was frustrated with him and didn't want him as a roommate any more. Zomalt is survived by his mother and his children.
