The Bethel School Board will hold a public meeting March 12 to review proposed changes of attendance areas for the school district's elementary schools. The district is considering the changes as a way to alleviate overcrowding in schools and to accommodate the shift to middle schools. New attendance boundaries have already been approved by the board for middle schools and high schools. All of the changes will take effect with the start of the 2013-14 school year next fall. The March 12 meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the district's Educational Service Center. Elementary schools that would be affected the most by the proposed revisions are Graham, Kapowsin, Rocky Ridge, Frederickson, Clover Creek, Camas Prairie, North Star, Nelson and Shining Mountain. Copies of all boundary maps can be accessed in the "Current Topics' box. The areas highlighted in RED are scheduled to change schools, if the plan is approved. Maps of the proposed boundaries are available at www.bethelsd.org. Additional information is available at 253-683-6080. Committees of parents and school officials developed the maps following several weeks of study that focused on balancing and sustaining enrollment at the schools and to provide safe and reasonable student transportation.
