Good things are happening in the cage for Eatonville MMA.
Fighters training with the mixed martial arts club have racked up victories in recent competitions, bringing a smile to the face of instructor/coach Brad Pole.
"I couldn't be more proud of our young team,GÇ¥ Pole said.-á"They are already doing the things that will make them future champions in the sport.GÇ¥
At the KOA Combat Ekolu event June 2 at Green River Community College, Freddie Baumann stepped back into the cage looking to improve his record to 2-0, and he did exactly that, defeating Jimmie Toller by unanimous decision.
Terran Mace, who lost in his debut with Eatonville MMA two weeks before, defeated David Beaver of Everett with a technical knockout 37 seconds into the second round. Fighting in a new weight class GÇô 145 pounds GÇô paid off for Mace, according to Pole.
Mace, a Marine Corps reservist, replaced Michael Weglin Jr. with two days notice on the Battle in Seattle card May 19. Entering the bout after only two practices, Mace lost to Matt Haffner of Vision Quest Sport and Fitness via a rear naked choke in the first round. Baumann, also fighting in the Seattle event, scored a TKO over Michael Purl of Bremerton MMA at 1:42 in round 1.
Weglin returned to action at Green River CC, joining teammate Oscar Trinidad in a tag team match. Pole said Trinidad, a wrestler for Eatonville High School, "brought the crowd to their feetGÇ¥ with submission moves.
Next for the Eatonville fighters are two competitions July 7. Mace will square off against Woo Jackson of Team Evolution in Tacoma in Cagequest at Clover Park Technical College, while Trinidad and Luke McNeley, another Eatonville High grappler, will be among a large field of competitiors-áin the Northwest's largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling tournament. It will be staged-áat Bonney Lake High School.
