Moose calf needs a name

Northwest Trek's animal keepers have determined the moose born July 17 at the wildlife park is a female, and now they want help naming the calf. Keepers have narrowed the possible choices to three GÇô Willow, Aspen and Lily. The public can vote online for their favorite at nwtrek.org through Aug. 31. The new name will be announced Sept. 1. The first moose born at Northwest Trek in 15 years has been venturing around the 435-acre free-roaming area with its mother, Connie, which is named for Connie Hellyer, Trek's co-founder. The calf is expected to nurse through the summer and stay with the mother into fall. Visitors on Trek tram tours have had regular sightings of the pair, officials reported. In the days immediately following the birth, animal keepers couldn't get close enough to the calf to determine its gender.
