The Roxy Theater in Morton may stop showing movies if it can't raise enough money to convert to a digital projection system. The theater, which is operated on a non-profit basis, has shown 35-millimeter films that are being phased out of production. The Fire Mountain Arts Council, which owns and runs the facility that also hosts live stage performances, said it needs to raise about $42,000 to make the transition to digital.-áApproximately $13,000 has been raised, the group announced last week. The council has launched an online campaign at kickstarter.com, a commercial web site that helps fund-raising efforts. The site makes worldwide appeals for projects, better known as crowd funding, council officials said.-áThey said money pledged via credit card won't be charged to a card's holder until the Roxy meets its Kickstarter goal of $22,000.-á Contributions can also be made at mortonroxy.org or at any Sterling Savings Bank. Fund-raising events that are scheduled include a spaghetti feed Oct. 19 at the Morton Moose Lodge, a music festival Oct. 27 at the theater featuring choirs from local churches, and a haunted house Oct. 29-31 at 6 p.. at Bean Tree Underground. The Roxy in Morton isn't affiliated with a theater of the same name in Eatonville, which also went through a fund-raising drive to purchase and convert to digital movie equipment in order to stay in business. That effort ended successfully last spring.
