Mountain and park "renamed' for Seahawks and fans

Winning a Super Bowl is a mountainous accomplishment. The Seattle Seahawks went even further by having a famous mountain renamed in their honor. The state Senate unanimously voted last Friday to change Mount Rainier's name to Mt. Seattle Seahawks, and also to change Mount Rainier National Park's moniker to 12th Man National Park. The changes were ceremonial only, and were in effect until 12 a.m. Monday, a few hours after the Seahawks claimed the Super Bowl and National Football League championships in a 43-8 blowout Sunday of the Denver Broncos. The state legislators also proclaimed Sunday as "Seahawks SundayGÇ¥ as part of Senate Resolution 8676, which the lawmakers passed unanimously. The resolution stated that the Senate was "VERY confidentGÇ¥ the Seahawks would beat Denver and that the team and its fans, known as the 12th man, were deserving of special recognition in the form of a mountain and its park.
