Mount Rainier National Park reopened from the federal government shutdown just in time for visitors to enjoy fall colors of the trees and foliage. Superintendent Randy King last week encouraged the public to enjoy the mountain before weather conditions change and snow starts falling. The park, as were other national parks and other federal agencies, were closed Oct. 1-17 because of a budget stalemate in Washington, D.C. -á Since reopening, park areas such as Longmire, Paradise, Carbon River, Ohanapecosh and White River have been accessible again for the public. But King noted that White River Road closed for the season to vehicles at the end of the day last Sunday.-áBicyclists and hikers cann still access the area, but all facilities are closed.-á Other seasonal closures include Mowich Lake Road, which has snow, and Paradise Inn.-á The Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center is under winter hours, operating weekends and holidays only.-á Some snow is on the ground in the Paradise area, but trails are still accessible, officials said. State Routes 410 and 123 on the east side of the park are scheduled to close Dec. 2. Stevens Canyon Road will close Nov. 1 to vehicles.-á Images from webcams showing current conditions at Paradise and Longmire can be viewed at nps.gov/mora.
