Murder-suicide in Eatonville

Two people are dead in Eatonville after an apparent murder-suicide Thursday morning. According to the Pierce County Sheriff Department, a 40-year-old man shot his 37-year-old wife at their home on Madison Street. He then drove a short distance in a pickup truck to Rainier Avenue, parked in the street in front of the house of a friend, and shot and killed himself with a handgun. Occupants of the house found him in the truck, authorities reported. The names of the victims were being withheld by authorities pending notification of next of kin by the county medical examiner. The victims had two children GÇô a 16-year-old son and an 8-year-old girl. Eatonville Police officers went to the schools in Eatonville that the children attend and took them into protective custody, said Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Sheriff Department. Troyer said detectives had no information on any trouble leading up to the shootings and were still investigating for a possible motive. But no other suspected shooters were being sought, he added. "The indications are that this was a murder/suicide," he said. Eatonville School District officials said grief counseling would be available at schools Friday to help anyone feeling traumatized by the shootings.
