Twenty-four applications to open legalized marijuana businesses in Pierce County have been received by state regulators. Eight are proposed in the south end of the county, including the Eatonville, Graham, Spanaway and Roy areas. Today is the deadline for applications to the state Liquor Control Board, which started receiving them Nov. 18. The board has decided 334 stores can be allowed statewide. At the county level, cities with the largest populations are allocated a proportionate number of stores, with the remaining outlets available for other areas of a county. Based on population sizes, Pierce County has been cleared by the state to have a maximum of 31 marijuana outlets, the second largest number of stores statewide. King County, with 61, would have the most. Regardless of how many stores eventually are approved by the state for Pierce County, the county plans to block the legalized marijuana industry until Congress removes pot from the list of federally controlled substances. The Liquor Control Board has released the business names and the addresses of marijuana business applicants. In Pierce County, they include Green Harvest Northwest at 38022 Meridian E. near Eatonville, Green Good at 1309 162nd St. Ct. E. in Spanaway, WA Weed at 23909 86th Ave. E. in Graham, Axabra South and Def Clown South at `1227 286th St. E. in Roy, Cannabis Aquaculture at 3518 208th St. E. (two applications), and Ladyhelm Farm at 24707 162nd Ave. E. in Graham. Other locations proposed by applicants include Gig Harbor, Bonney Lake, Tacoma, Orting, Puyallup, Pacific and Lakewood.
