The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is adding a public meeting to a series of six open houses for public input on a statewide policy for managing public-access trails in state forests, including Elbe Hills. The meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DNR offices in Tumwater at 801 88th Ave. SE. Directions are available online at http://1.usa.gov/1CGyv0K A DNR spokesman said the meeting for recreational users of Elbe Hills, Capitol, Tahuya, Green Mountain and Tahoma state forests or other DNR-managed recreation land in the southern Puget Sound area. Statewide, DNR manages 2.2 million acres of forests, including approximately 1,100 miles of trails and 143 recreation sites.
