Eatonville School District superintendent Rich Stewart put his retirement plans on hold last week by accepting an appointment to be interim superintendent of Chimacum School District. Officials in the Chimacum district, located south of Port Townsend, announced the hiring of Stewart last Thursday. He'll replace Craig Downs, whose resignation as superintendent takes effect June 30. Stewart, Eatonville's superintendent since 2010, announced in January that he would retire at the end of the 2012-13 school year. The 64-year-old Stewart said he wants to spend more time with his family after a career in education that began in 1974. To replace Stewart, the School Board hired Krestin Bahr, a Tacoma School District administrator. Her selection was announced in May, and she will begin her new duties July 1.
