Roy was born in Calais, Maine, April 10, 1943 to Roy F. and Edith Watters. He spent his childhood in Calais, joining the Navy in 1962. While at the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, he met the love of his life, Donna (Spenard).
After his discharge in 1966, he moved to Seattle and worked for Boeing until he was hired by King County Fire Protection District 1, in Duwamish. After marriage in 1967, he and Donna lived in Burien, where they stayed until their first child, Michelle, was born. At that time, the family moved once again, to Tukwila. It was there that their son Zach and daughter Tessa joined the family.
In 1978, they moved to Eatonville so they could raise their family in the country. With the help of family and friends, they built their own home. Roy worked for 18 years as a firefighter for the Duwamish Fire Department. After retiring on disability, he worked part-time at The Amphitheatre in Puyallup.
At the time of his death, he was employed by Mount Rainier National Park doing part-time custodial work. Roy loved to stay busy working, especially at his home. He loved to garden and build things. He also loved spending time with his six grandchildren who kept him young at heart. Roy and Donna created many happy memories both together and with family and friends. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. On June 23, 2012, Roy died peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by his family. They will miss having morning coffee together, talking about life, listening to the radio, and working in the yard with him. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his kind and giving nature.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and first grand-daughter, Demitra. He is survived by his wife Donna Watters, his children Michelle Parker (Jay), Zach Watters (Kelly), and Tessa Watters, five grandchildren GÇô Chelsey, Gabriel, Celine, Leah, and Dylan, and numerous extended family members, all of whom loved him dearly. Roy was a good man.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Eatonville. Donations in his name can be made to the Hospitality Kitchen in Tacoma, Habitat for Humanity or your local food bank.
