For his Eagle Scout project, Kylan Merrill made getting around Eatonville a little easier. The project, part of his ascension to Boy Scouts' highest rank, involved building a gravel walking path that connects Center Street and Erin Lane. "Before, it wasn't even a real path, just one created by people walking on it repeatedlyGÇ¥ and a small amount of gravel that someone laid down, Merrill said. The original path was narrow, overgrown "and just not in very nice condition,GÇ¥ he said. So Merrill and volunteers from his Scout troop and his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, used timbers and fresh gravel to make all 104 feet of the path smoother and easier to negotiate. GÇ¥ I chose this project because I know that many people in both of the connecting neighborhoods walk through there every day, myself included,GÇ¥ Merrill-á said. To fund the project, Merrill, 15, asked businesses for donations.-á Donors included Sears, Mountain Community Co-op, Black Star Feed, NAPA Auto Parts, Eatonville Hair Design, Cruiser Creations, Eatonville Wellness Center, All About You Salon, Allergies Lifestyle and Health, Eatonville Barber Shop, Farmers Insurance Group, Pierce Properties, Carriage House Inc. and Eatonville Auto Center.
