The Pierce County Sheriff Department plans to make Eatonville Town Hall the new base for its 20-officer unit that serves the southeast area of the county. Negotiations between the county and the town have resulted in a tentative contract that the Town Council could approve Feb. 11. Under terms of the proposed five-year deal, the county would pay Eatonville $30,000 a year for five years ($2,500 a month) to rent space in the basement of Town Hall as the new home of the Mountain Detachment. The county also plans to contribute $40,000 to the cost of remodeling the space, including converting two jail cells into office space. The cells aren't being used to house prisoners.
