Soldiers cemetery gets cleanup

Volunteers will converge on the Washington Soldiers Home Cemetery near Orting this Saturday for a cleanup of the grounds. State Rep. Graham Hunt will host the event, the second of its kind in the past month, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. "Words can't begin to describe how grateful I am to the nearly 80 volunteers that came out to help clean the headstones at the cemetery last month," said Hunt, whose Second District constituency include the south Pierce County area. "There is still a lot of work to be done, so I would love to see an even larger turnout on (May 16). Our immediate goal is to get the cemetery in better condition in time for the Memorial Day service on May 25, but this is one of the many steps we'll be taking to fully restore the cemetery back to its original condition."
