SPSL test passed with flying colors

Two school records for Eatonville fell as 16 Cruisers stormed through the South Puget Sound League 2A high school track and field meet last week and qualified for this week's West Central District championships. The top six finishers in each event among the girls and boys competitors earned spots in the district meet, which will be staged Friday and Saturday at Sumner High's Sunset Stadium. That's the same place where Eatonville's Machaela Graddy, Erik Swartout and Jerzy Mach were among the top performers in the SPSL meet. Swartout and Mach each captured a conference title. Graddy qualified in four events, one of them a relay, and Swartout and Mach made the grade in three apiece.
Graddy ran faster in the girls' 200 than anyone else in the Cruisers' history as she blazed to second place in 26.79 seconds. She broke the old mark of 26.8 set by Ashley Anderson in 2001. Another school record was toppled by Lucas Hatton in the boys' shot put with a second-place effort of 49 feet 3 inches. The previous record of 48-8 had been held by Josh Kidd since 1999.
