Susan Evelyn Akers Lyng went to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2012. Born Aug. 3, 1934 to Harry and Alma Akers, Evelyn moved to the Ashford-National area at the age of 11. She spent most of her life there, working in hospitality for Mount Rainier National Park before purchasing Gateway Inn. When retiring from Gateway and working for GSI at the National Park Inn at Longmire, Evelyn sold real estate before retiring to Tucson, Ariz. She enjoyed hiking with her friends and loved being a "desert rat.GÇ¥ Evelyn loved life, her family, her church and her friends; she will be missed by many. Evelyn is survived by her sister Margaret Anderson of Ashford, daughters Connie (John) Carroll of Seaford, South Australia and Laura (Ken) Christian of Starbuck, Wash. She is also survived by her five granddaughters and their families GÇô Renae and Michael Hannahs, Kyle and Kendra of Eatonville, Julie Christian and Chris Ward, Benjamin and Kaylin Reitz, Raven and Jesse Ward of Wenatchee, Rebecca and David Merrill, James and Daniel of Tucson, Ariz., Christine Carroll and Clark Nash of Adelaide, South Australia, Elizabeth Carroll and Ar Rey with daughter Saphina of Seaford, South Australia. Evelyn is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. The family requests that any remembrances be made to the Saint Matthews Episcopal Church in Tucson, Community Outreach Division.
