Crystal Rodgers and Amber Kistenmacher, Ashford residents who have helped bring visitors to their community, have been named recipients of the Mount Rainier Visitor Association's Community Service Award for 2013. Rodgers and Kistenmacher are officers of the Mt. Rainier Lions Club. Through their volunteer efforts with the Lions Club and in other community endeavors, they have helped draw guests into the Ashford Valley through craft bazaars and other events. Those efforts have boosted the local economy by attracting visitors and providing community events for residents, according to the Visitor Association, which also cited Rodgers as a role model for young girls. The award was presented by Visitor Association president Sarah Scott at the organization's annual dinner at Whittaker's Mountain Haus in Ashford on Jan. 29. The association represents more than 50 travel-related businesses in the Ashford-Elbe-Mineral area. The Mt. Rainier Lions Club has a long history of unity and service to this area, Scott noted.
