Top golfers tee it up in Puget Sound Amateur

Some of the top amateur golfers in the region will compete in the 48th annual Puget Sound Amateur May 18-19. The 36-hole event GÇô the first round at Lake Spanaway Golf Course, the second round at Chambers Bay Golf Course GÇô will offer $9,000 in prizes. The registration deadline is May 13 at www.lakespanawaygc.com and www.chambersbaygolf.com. Chambers Bay was the site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur and will be the host course for the 2015 U.S. Open. Both courses are owned by Pierce County and offer unique and challenging championship conditions. Like Lake Spanaway, it's owned by Pierce County. Craig Larson is the defending champion in this year's Puget Sound Amateur. Past champions include Kyle Stanley and Ryan Moore, who are now PGA Tour professionals.
