Tour benefits Graham's Chase Garden

The Puyallup Fall Color Gardens Tour, showcasing two private gardens in the South Hill area, is scheduled for Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as a benefit for Chase Garden, a non-profit preserve in Graham. The tour's $15 admission fee includes apple cider and treats. Fall and winter blooming hardy cyclamen will be for sale. The tour stops will be the Julie and Ernie Graham garden-á(13715 Military Road E.) and the Sue Mulcahey garden (12413 136th St. E.). More information is available at www.chasegarden and 206-242-4040. Chase Garden is under the wings of the Garden Conservancy, a national non-profit organization that helps owners or other non-profit operators of gardens preserve and make them open to the public as cultural heritage and environmental stewardship. The wooded four acres that Chase Garden occupies overlooks the Orting/Puyallup River Valley and was once the home of Emmott and Ione Chase, who crafted an oasis of native trees and shrubs, groundcover, wildflowers, pathways and Japanese-style ponds and bridges. A local board of directors oversees the garden's operations, and volunteers help maintain the grounds and greet visitors. Guided tours are offered at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month from April through October, which means the final opportunity for tours this year is this Saturday. Admission costs $5 per person. More information is available at chasegarden.org.
