By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch The Town of Eatonville is in the market for a public works director who can wear a lot of hats. Whoever gets the job will oversee all public works functions and employees and supervise the operation and maintenance of electric, water, sewer, streets and storm drainage systems, and the planning, building and parks departments. Applicants will be sought regionally and statewide for the position that's budgeted for a maximum annual salary of $75,756, said Mayor Mike Schaub, who will make the hiring decision. A timeline for when that will happen hasn't been announced. The job became available after the resignation last November of Doug Beagle as town administrator. Schaub subsequently decided, and the Town Council agreed, that he would replace the administrator role with a public works director. Schaub said the latter duties are a higher priority. Generally, town administrators handle administrative and policy-related tasks. Beagle's duties included supervision of public works. In Eatonville's strong-mayor form of government, the mayor has hiring and firing authority over employees and is responsible for the town's budget. The departure of Beagle left Eatonville without a town administrator for the first time in five years. The position's salary was listed at $110,943 in the salary schedule for 2016 for town personnel. Beagle was hired by then-mayor Ray Harper in December 2010 to initially manage public works projects and the town's utilities.
