Town's top administrator departs

By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch Eatonville is withuot a town administrator for the first time in five years after the sudden resignation of the post by Doug Beagle. Mayor Mike Schaub announced at the Nov. 9 Town Council meeting that Beagle resigned that day, effective immediately. Schaub said Beagle quit "due to the demands of the job." A decision on how Beagle's duties will be handled or whether a new administrator will be hired hasn't been finalized, although Schaub said Monday that he is "evaluating between the need for an administrator or a public works manager " The position's responsibilities have included overseeing day-to-day operations of the town. Since Beagle's departure, those duties have been shared by town personnel, Schaub said. The town administrator position was listed at $110,943 in the salary schedule for 2016 as part of next year's budget. Final adoption of the budget by the council was scheduled for this week (Nov. 23). Beagle began working for Eatonville Dec. 1, 2010. He was hired by then-mayor Ray Harper to initially be in charge of public works projects and the town's utilities. Harper gave himself the town administrator duties in a makeover of town hall management that began with Harper's firing of the previous administrator. Generally, town administrators handle administrative and policy-related tasks. In Eatonville's strong-mayor form of government, the mayor has hiring and firing authority over employees and is responsible for the town's budget.
