Voting ends Tuesday in the primary election ends, with local fire protection services and some thinning of candidates on the ballots of south Pierce County voters. Ballots can be deposited in official county auditor drop boxes until 8 p.m. Tuesday, the close of voting. Locations include the Graham Fire and Rescue station at 10012 187th St. E., Barnery's Corner at State Route 161 and Eatonville Cutoff Road, and the South Hill branch of Pierce County Library (15420 Meridian E.). Ballots also can be mailed as long as they're postmarked by Tuesday. Graham Fire and Rescue is asking voters in that fire district to approve an $11 million, four-year maintenance and operations levy. The measure would cost taxpayers in the district $2.75 million per year if it's approved. Starting in 2015 and ending in 2018, the money would be collected at a rate between 52 cents and 60 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value to help pay for fire and emergency medical services. In the Legislature's District 2, which includes parts of Pierce and Thurston counties, the number of candidates for a state representative position currently held by J.T. Wilcox will be reduced from three to two. The same situation cutdown applies to a contest for Pierce County District Court judge. In both races, the top two finishers will advance to the general election in November.
