Former Bethel coach dies at 91

James Nylander, a former Bethel School District coach, died March 16. He was 91.
After attending Pacific Lutheran University, Nylander became a teacher in the Bethel district, where he also coached track and basketball. According to his family, he enjoyed reminiscing about those experiences and recalling names of students he taught and coached.
He was an ardent sports fan and virtually always wore University of Washington ballcaps to reflect his support of the Huskies, family said.
He was a Tacoma native and served in the Navy.
Nylander is survived by his former wife Betty, his daughters Jean Schrader and Cherry Benston, and his sons, Robert Nylander and James Nylander.
