Yard sale under cover at Frontier Park

Pierce County Parks and Recreation is the host of a covered “yard sale” at Frontier Park, scheduled for April 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 70 families and vendors will be selling goods inside the park's horse barns, according to a recreation department spokeswoman. Additional information is available at 253-798-4049 and piercecountywa.org/frontierpark.
The park is located at 21800 Meridian S. in Graham.  

Blooming Quilt Show in Eatonville

The Dr. A.W. Bridge Guild of Eatonville and its members of Mary Bridge Brigade will present a display of vintage and new quilts on May 5 in Eatonville.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 210 Orchard, the Blooming Quilts Show will feature quilts from 1840 to the present. Community members are invited to display their own unique works that are designed to capture history and imagination. Participation is free.

Everybody's gone surfin': Beach Boys to play at fair

The Beach Boys, still performing after making their pop music debut more than 50 years ago, will take the Washington State Fair's grandstand stage for a concert Sept. 14.
Captained by Mike Love, the group averages 150 shows a year, ranging from summer festivals to gala New Year’s celebrations and special events worldwide.
Tickets ($55, $45 and $30) are on sale at http://www.thefair.com/fun/details/thebeachboys, 888-559-3247, and the fair’s box office at Ninth Avenue Southwest and Meridian Street in Puyallup, near the fairgrounds' main entrance. The box office is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Book discussions part of Pierce County Reads

Special activities at Pierce County Library System branches are scheduled as part of the system's annual Pierce County Reads event.
The schedule includes:
• Discussions of "Grunt," a book by author Mary Roach that is the featured book this year. Discussions will be held April 13 at the Graham branch from 2:30 to 4 p.m., and April 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Parkland-Spanaway branch.
• Egg-engineering for children April 18 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Parkland-Spanaway branch. Fourth through eighth-graders can design safe landings for eggs dropped from heights.

Roach, a New Hampshire native, is a best-selling author whose books include "Stiff," "Gulp" and "Packing for Mars." In "Grunt," she explores the medical, technical and human science behind keeping solders safe and well in extreme conditions.

Benefit bake sale in Eatonville April 14-15

A bake sale in memory of Debbie Wince and benefitting the Eatonville Relay for Life fund-raiser for American Cancer Society will be held April 14-15 at Plaza Market in Eatonville.

Organizations can begin signing up for booths at this year's Community Day in Eatonville.
