• Volunteers who have Pierce County Library System branches at heart got
some special thanks Oct. 14-20 during National Friends of Libraries Week.
In Pierce County, Friends of the Libraries last year contributed more
than $100,800 to the branches in proceeds from book sales while also
volunteering their time and resources to raise public awareness of
libraries and their services, according to Pierce County Library System
(PCLS).
“Our friends groups love their libraries and their communities, and we
love our friends,” said PCLS executive director Georgia Lomax. “They
volunteer their time and ideas to our libraries and are a voice to and
for their communities.”
People can find out more about Friends of the Libraries and join a group
piercelibrary.org. They can also support fund-raising book sales by
donating new or used books, movies and magazines at any library branch.
• Richard Thurston has been appointed to Frederickson Advisory
Commission, which advises Pierce County officials on land-use issues
involving the Frederickson area.
Thurston was nominated by County Executive Bruce Dammeier and confirmed
by the County Council on Oct. 10.
