UPDATE: Burn ban is over

A burn ban in Pierce County has been lifted by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

High-altitude clouds should help reduce inversions and air pollution across the Puget Sound region, and a cold front that’s expected to arrive Friday and bring good air quality with combined to put an end to the ban at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12, officials said.

The ban, which began Dec. 8, wasn’t in effect in Eatonville or some other areas of south Pierce County. Elsewhere, homeowners and businesses were prohibited from using wood-burning fireplaces and stoves. The goal was to reduce wood smoke that could aggravate asthma and other chronic respiratory illnesses, particularly among children and older adults.
